From "usable" to "effective": The evolution path of industrial wireless charging

In the industrial field, a technology usually goes through two stages from its birth to maturity: first, "usable", and then "easy to use".

"Usable" means that the technical principle is established and the basic functions can be realized; "easy to use" means that the technology integrates into the scenario and can withstand on-site tests without becoming a bottleneck in the production process. For wireless charging technology, this evolutionary path is accelerating.

The recently launched modular wireless charger by WIRELESSPT can be regarded as a node on this evolutionary path. It does not pursue the ultimate breakthrough in technical parameters, but focuses on the word "easy to use" - making installation more flexible, using more convenient, and maintenance simpler.

The "easy to use" in installation: adapting to equipment versus adapting to the site

In the "usable" stage, installation is often conditional: the charging module must be reserved in a specific position for the equipment, must meet specific installation angles, and must avoid specific interference sources. If the conditions are not met, the plan will be rejected.

In the "easy to use" stage, the logic reverses: the charging module begins to actively adapt to the equipment and the site. The coil thickness of WIRELESSPT's modular products is compressed to 28 millimeters, which can be embedded in most gaps; the controller is separated from the coil, and can be placed in different positions; the requirements for metal shielding areas are fully considered in the design, leaving sufficient installation margin for engineers.

The value of this "adaptability" is particularly evident in the retrofit projects. A case of the inspection robot in a coal mine underground shows that the original equipment chassis has been occupied by batteries and other components, leaving no complete area for installing the charging module. Finally, the engineers embedded the coil of the modular product in the remaining gap at the bottom of the equipment, and installed the controller on the side bracket - without changing the original vehicle body structure, the wireless charging was connected.

The "easy to use" in usage: from manual intervention to automatic management

In the "usable" stage, the charging process often requires manual confirmation: after the robot arrives, instructions need to be sent; after charging is completed, manual processing is required. If the equipment fails, professional personnel need to troubleshoot.

In the "easy to use" stage, manual intervention is minimized. WIRELESSPT's modular products support the "proximity charging" mode, where the robot is automatically awakened for charging upon arrival, without sending instructions; when fully charged, it automatically enters standby mode, without manual processing. When the system detects an anomaly, it triggers a protection mechanism and feedbacks the status, and the managers can understand the situation through indicator lights or communication interfaces.

This system has been running continuously in an AGV fleet in an automotive manufacturing workshop for several months. According to the feedback from the on-site managers, since the switch to wireless charging, there has been no more downtime due to charging interface failures - the days when workers had to clean the contacts with rags and replace the terminals with screwdrivers have become a thing of the past.

The "easy to use" in maintenance: from regular maintenance to no maintenance

In the "usable" stage, maintenance is an unavoidable topic. Contact-based charging requires regular cleaning of contacts, checking for cable wear, and addressing interface aging - all of these are manifestations of "presence".

In the "easy to use" stage, maintenance requirements are significantly reduced. The coil part of WIRELESSPT's modular products reaches IP67 protection level, completely dust-proof and capable of operating normally in 1-meter-deep water, and still operates reliably in humid and dusty environments. Users do not need to clean regularly, do not need to worry about interface wear, and truly achieve "install and don't have to worry about it".

For equipment operating in harsh environments such as chemical parks and port terminals, this "no maintenance" feature is particularly valuable. Managers no longer need to frequently enter dangerous areas for maintenance and no longer need to worry about equipment shutdown due to charging failures - the technology truly serves people rather than people serving the technology.

The ultimate goal of evolution is to return to the original context.

At the manufacturing base in Yantai with an annual production capacity of 20,000 units, these modular products are being mass-produced and rolled off the line. For the engineers of WIRELESSPT, the evolution of technology has no end, but the direction is clear: to make the products better fit the context and for users to not even notice the presence of technology.

From "usable" to "easy to use", industrial wireless charging is following this inevitable path. And the criterion for judging "easy to use" is also very simple: when managers no longer consider the charging process as a problem that requires special attention, the technology is truly mature.
